Vince Carter’s Restaurant opens in Daytona Beach, Florida

Orlando Magic star and Mainland High School Graduate, Vince Carter, has opened a restaurant at 2150 LPGA Blvd. just east of I-95 in Daytona Beach, Florida. The new restaurant has outside porch dining, a large main dining room, a VIP room, sports bar and piano bar. Mr. Carter is anticipating frequent visits by his Orlando Magic teammates and other celebrities. There are lots of TV’s in the sports bar section so everyone can watch the game. Lunch is served 11:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. daily.

2009 Condo Sales Ormond By The Sea, Florida

While the number of condos sold through the Daytona Beach Area Association of Realtors Multiple Listing Service in Ormond By The Sea, Florida (59) was higher than the total numbers in 2006 (43) to 2008 (41) it remains much lower than the average of 95 for the years 2000 to 2004 when the market was more “normal”.

Projecting the 59 sales per year forward would mean we currently have a year and a half of inventory, which is still very high and continues to indicate a buyers market.

A complicating factor could be foreclosures, which have shown no sign yet of slowing. There is a possibility that many more foreclosures will be coming on the market over the coming months since we are unable to close on many short sales.

Fish City Grill closes in Ormond Beach Florida

The Fish City Grill at the Trails Shopping Center in Ormond Beach has closed. The restaurant, which opened just a couple of years ago, is apparently another victim of these difficult economic times. The franchisee was unable to get a rent reduction sufficient to keep the business open.

New Florida Drivers License Requirements
Effective January 1, 2010, new identification requirements took effect for Florida residents getting a driver license or identification card. You will be required to visit a driver license office and show proof of: 1) identification, 2) Social Security number and 3) residential address (two items). Whale watching season on Florida’s East Coast

Whale watching season on Florida’s East Coast
December to March is when the endangered North Atlantic Right Whale migrates to the east coast of Georgia and Florida for calving. This is the only known calving area for this whale. Volunteers have been recruited & trained and are actively observing the shoreline to report sightings of mothers and calves. To report a sighting or a North American Right Whale call the hot line at 1-888-979-4253. Right Whales have been known to reach 60 feet in length and weight up to 117 tons. It is believed the whales live for about 70 years.  There was a day of watching many whales around the Flagler Beach pier January 29, 2010.

New Ocean Front Park in Ormond By The Sea, Florida

Work has begun on a beachside park in Ormond By The Sea, Florida at Roberta Road on the east side of A1A. The site was the location of the Happy Whale Condominium and the Happy Whale Restaurant. Those buildings had not been well maintained for many years and were demolished in 2001 due to an accumulation of code violations.

Part of the same project includes approximately 1 acre on the west side of A1A at Carol Road that will provide additional parking for the park. Completion of the park, which has not yet been named, is expected this summer and possible as early as May 2010. Amenities anticipated at the park will be beach access, restrooms and showers. There will be no playground or picnic pavilions so if you are looking for those things you will need to go down the road a few hundred yards to Tom Renick Park. <br />

The lowest sale price was $74,900 and the highest was $407,600. Four of the 14 sales were 2 bedroom 1 bath and 6 were 3 or more bedrooms. The average sale price was $145,986 the median sales price was $130,000. At 14, the number of December 2009 sales exceeds the December 2008 total of 3 and the December 2007 total of 6
